Creatine in Brazil: the recent report from Anvisa.

Creatine is one of the most widely used supplements by athletes, healthcare professionals, and consumers seeking improved physical performance. However, the growing demand also requires rigorous attention to the quality and compliance of products available on the market.

In April 2025, the Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) released the results of a thorough analysis of 41 brands of creatine sold in Brazil. The data reinforces the importance of good manufacturing practices, transparent labeling, and commitment to legislation.

What was evaluated?

Anvisa focused on three fundamental criteria:

  • Creatine content

The actual nutrient value cannot vary by more than 20% from what is stated in the nutrition facts label. The reference value is 3,000 mg. Only one brand showed a level below the required amount—a considerable improvement compared to previous industry surveys.

Labeling adequacy:

This was the point with the most irregularities. Of the 41 marks, 40 presented errors, such as:

  • Unauthorized claims (including in other languages),
  • Lack of consumption frequency,
  • Incomplete nutritional information.,
  • Use of terms or images that may mislead the consumer.
  • Presence of impurities

All samples passed this criterion, showing no presence of foreign matter or contaminants.

Positive highlight:

Among all the brands evaluated, only Creatine Monohydrate – 100% Pure, from Atlhetica Nutrition, manufactured by ADS Laboratório Nutricional LTDA, met all the criteria required by Anvisa — an example of regulatory excellence and responsibility towards the consumer.

What changes starting in September 2025?

With the entry into force of RDC 843/2024 and IN 281/2024, all food supplements marketed in Brazil must be registered with Anvisa (Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency). This measure raises the standard of the sector and creates opportunities for serious and committed companies to stand out.

Why does this matter?

For the consumer, it means more security.

For companies, it means responsibility.

And for the professionals of food and supplement industry, This represents a new era of transparency and innovation — where quality and compliance go hand in hand.
