Camphor is a terpenoid with the chemical formula C10H16O, found in the sap of the plant. camphor (Cinnamomum camphora).
It is a waxy, white or transparent substance with a strong, aromatic odor.
Obtaining:
The extraction is done by oxidizing pinene (the main component of turpentine essence).
It is an acyclic compound. It appears as large, white, granular-crystalline, translucent masses with a particularly pungent odor and a somewhat bitter taste. It is poorly soluble in water, dissolving easily in alcohol, ether, and other organic solvents. It volatilizes at room temperature.
